WordPress Plugins for Page Management

Published in: CMS, WordPress — Tags: , — jai

WordPress got started as a tool for blogging.  However, with continual enhancements WordPress has grown from blogging tool to a full blown Content Management System (CMS) which can support portfolio sites, news sites, magazine sites, e-commerce sites, and many more.  As a blogging tool the focus is on posts.  However, as a content management system the focus is more on pages and here are 5 WordPress plugins that focus on page management.

My Page Order allows you to set the order of pages through a drag and drop interface. The WordPress default method of setting the order page by page is extremely clumsy, especially with a large number of pages.  If you want to manage a collection of pages this is a simple yet valuable plugin.  Over 75,000 downloads on this plugin.

Page Management Dropdown - Allows you to choose which page to edit from a drop down menu as well as gives you the option of starting a new page. Works well for WordPress installs being used as a CMS. Before version 2.7 this plugin had to be used in conjuction with an admin drop down plugin andthat complexity limited us.  Much easier to use in the 2.7+ world of WordPress.

pageMash - Gives you control over the order of your pages like My Page Order but adds the ability to hide ones you don’t want to be seen.  Customize the order your pages are listed in and manage the parent structure with this simple ajax drag-and-drop administrative interface with an option to toggle the page to be hidden from output. Great tool to quickly re-arrange your page menus.

Flexi Pages Widget - A highly configurable WordPress sidebar widget to list pages and sub-pages. Can be used as an alternative to the default ‘Pages’ widget.  It features the option to display sub-pages only in parent page and related pages; option to select and exclude certain pages from getting displayed in the list. Alternatively, only certain pages can be displayed by using the ‘include’ option; other options include title, sort column/order, hierarchical/flat format, show date.

Page Links To - Page Links To is a plugin that allows you to make a WordPress page or post link to a URL of your choosing, instead of its WordPress page or post URL. It also will redirect people who go to the old (or “normal”) URL to the new one, using a redirect style of your choosing (301 Moved Permanently is standard, but you can enable 302 Moved Temporarily redirects if you wish.) This is useful for setting up navigational links to non-WordPress sections of your site or to off-site resources.
